A 17-year-old medical aspirant reportedly took his own life in a Kota hostel room, bringing the spotlight back on the city's rising student suicide rates. This marks the ninth suspected student suicide since January, according to local authorities.
The student, Harshraj Shankar from Bihar, was found hanging from an iron rod in his hostel room, which was equipped with an anti-suicide ceiling fan. The incident occurred in the Jawahar Nagar area, a hub for students training for competitive exams.
Police on the scene confirmed no suicide note was found, intensifying investigations as the parents are expected to arrive for the post-mortem. The tragedy underscores the grim pattern of suicides among Kota's coaching students, with an alarming 17 deaths reported this year.
