The Delhi High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation that opposed the lowering of qualifying cut-off marks for NEET PG 2025. The petitioner argued that a reduced cut-off compromises the quality of medical professionals entering specialization courses, potentially endangering lives.

A bench led by Chief Justice D K Upadhayay alongside Justice Tejas Karia countered that the focus of postgraduate education is skill development and not the judgment of a doctor's quality. It questioned the practicality of leaving seats vacant when more doctors are needed nationwide.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences revised the qualifying percentiles after over 18,000 postgraduate seats remained unfilled. The third round of counselling is underway, and the decision intends to allow more candidates to pursue specializations by lowering general category cut-offs from 50 to seven percentiles.
