Symposium on Sustainable Circularity in Textiles Encourages Youth Engagement

The event united industry veterans, students, and researchers to advocate for a shift from fast fashion to sustainable practices, highlighting recycling and upcycling innovations.

NEW DELHI: On June 7, 2024, The Lalit hosted an engaging symposium focused on 'Enabling Circularity and Sustainability in Textiles.' This event brought together industry veterans, students, and researchers to discuss innovative solutions to tackle post-consumer textile waste.
The symposium shed light on the dire consequences of textile waste, including significant water, energy, and chemical footprints. Approximately 81% of fast fashion garments end up in landfills, and the industry consumes 4% of the world's water resources.
The Circle Back Campaign, initiated in November 2023, was also highlighted. Collaborators included the Ministry of Textiles, GIZ, and Vertiver. Attendees discussed behavior change workshops, upcycling projects, and student achievements, aiming to inspire a shift towards sustainable consumption.
