Federal charges have been filed, and at least one individual has been arrested following a meticulous investigation into the death of 'Friends' star Matthew Perry in Los Angeles, sources revealed on Thursday. The arrest, happening in Southern California, involved a doctor, according to law enforcement sources cited by ABC News.
Perry, aged 54, passed away from acute ketamine effects, in addition to other factors, which led him to lose consciousness and drown in his hot tub last October, as stated by an autopsy report. Los Angeles homicide detectives, along with federal agents, have been probing how Perry came into possession of the prescription drug for several months. An indictment related to the case is expected to be unsealed later on Thursday, NBC News reported.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner determined that Perry's death was due to accidental drug overdose and drowning, with no indications of foul play. The December 2023 autopsy report confirmed that acute effects of ketamine, combined with additional factors, caused Perry to lose consciousness and slip underwater at his home.
