The government is set to introduce the 'INDIAsize' initiative, aiming to standardize measurements for Indian body types. Currently, India uses US and UK garment sizes, which do not fit well. The government is poised to launch the much-anticipated 'INDIAsize' initiative, designed to standardize clothing sizes to better suit Indian body types, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh announced on Thursday.
At present, both international and domestic brands in India utilize sizing standards from the US and the UK, which often leads to fitting discrepancies due to differences in body dimensions such as height, weight, and specific body part measurements.
To address these inconsistencies, the Ministry of Textiles has sanctioned the INDIAsize project, which aims to develop standard body sizes for the Indian apparel industry. Minister Singh also mentioned efforts to have the Prime Minister inaugurate the project soon.
On another front, VisioNxt, India's inaugural initiative that merges Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) to generate fashion trend insights and forecasts, has been launched. This platform aims to identify and analyze geo-specific trends while reflecting India's cultural and socio-economic diversity.
Minister Singh highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India now has its own fashion design forecasting system, bridging a significant gap previously filled by American and European agencies. This new system is set to engage in dynamic dialogues to understand Indian mindsets and aspirations, reducing dependence on global forecasting agencies, and leveraging India's strength in information technology.
