Bengali Filmmaker Arindam Sil Suspended Over Misconduct Allegations
Bengali filmmaker Arindam Sil has been suspended by the Directors' Association of Eastern India following a complaint of sexual misconduct by an actress. The decision comes amid serious allegations of harassment that prompted immediate action, tarnishing the renowned actor and director's reputation.
Bengali filmmaker Arindam Sil has been suspended by the Directors' Association of Eastern India (DAEI) after accusations of sexual misconduct were levied against him by an actress. The suspension took effect immediately, as stated in a letter issued by DAEI officials late Saturday.
Sil, an eminent figure in Bengal's Tollywood industry known for films such as 'Har Har Byomkesh' and the Shabor series, faced the first major disciplinary action for sexual harassment in Bengali cinema. ''Due to certain allegations made against you, and prima facie evidence we have with us, which are of deep concern and are maligning to the entire organisation, DAEI has decided to suspend you from membership for an indefinite period or until the allegations against you are cleared,'' read the letter signed by DAEI president Subrata Sen and secretary Sudeshna Roy.
Sil, who is also a notable actor, claimed his behavior was misconstrued and unintentional. The incident reportedly occurred during a recent film shoot, and despite his apology, the DAEI moved forward with the suspension citing comprehensive consultations with all involved parties.
