Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress general secretary, paid tribute to martyr Thalachira Janeesh during the inauguration of 'Smriti Mandapam' in Kerala's Edavaka panchayat. Janeesh lost his life in 2003 during an anti-terrorist operation in Kashmir and was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal in 2004.
Highlighting the lasting impact of martyrdom, Vadra, herself a daughter of a martyr, expressed deep empathy with the families of fallen soldiers. She underscored the role of community support in alleviating their grief and highlighted the significance of memorials in reminding citizens of the high cost of freedom.
During her visit, Vadra lauded Kerala's panchayat systems as exemplary for the nation and praised environmental efforts, including the zero waste achievement of Edavaka panchayat.
