Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena (UBT) Member of Parliament, has repeatedly criticized the Maharashtra government's approach to the three-language formula, labeling it an insult to the Marathi language. Raut's remarks come amid rising tensions over plans to introduce Hindi as a third language in Marathi and English medium schools.
During interactions with reporters, Raut questioned the silence of prominent Marathi literary figures and celebrities, implying their ties with the government may be influencing their lack of vocal opposition. Additionally, he took aim at cabinet ministers whose children are enrolled in English-medium schools, arguing their choices undermine their ability to advocate for Marathi.
The government's amended order, which requires consent for non-Hindi languages, has sparked controversy. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has purportedly emphasized stakeholder consultations, but Raut remains critical, questioning the government's true commitment to promoting Marathi and accusing officials of hiding ulterior motives.
