Goa Police made a significant arrest on Wednesday, detaining Ajay Gupta, a silent partner in the controversial 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub in North Goa. The arrest follows the failure of two other owners to secure bail from a Delhi court as they attempt to evade law enforcement.
Gupta's arrest came after a coordinated effort between Delhi and Goa police departments. He was presented before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, who ordered a 36-hour transit remand amidst the chaos caused by disrupted Indigo flights. Gupta requires medical attention due to a spinal injury, which the authorities have been instructed to manage adequately during his transfer.
The incident has prompted Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to launch a comprehensive safety drive. Post a high-level meeting, the government formed a fire safety audit committee to scrutinize tourism spots. Establishments failing to meet safety standards risk losing their licenses, as Goa endeavors to prevent holiday season calamities.
