French sailor Charlie Dalin, celebrated for setting a new benchmark in the Vendee Globe round-the-world sailing race, has passed away at the age of 42, following a prolonged battle with cancer. The race organizers announced his death, highlighting his incredible achievements and resilience both on and off the waters.

Dalin broke the existing Vendee Globe record by more than nine days, finishing the arduous solo journey in 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, and 49 seconds. This accomplishment marked Dalin’s second participation in the event, following his impressive second-place finish in the 2020-21 edition.

Beyond the Vendee Globe, Dalin's two-decade-long sailing career encompassed numerous transatlantic race victories. Fellow sailors and officials, including the Vendee Globe’s Alain Leboeuf and France's President Emmanuel Macron, lauded Dalin for his talent and indomitable spirit while also expressing heartfelt condolences to his family.
