Pakistan Tuesday condemned the suicide attack on an election rally in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province which killed at least 13 people and injured many others.
The attack, which took place in Kama district where supporters of parliamentary candidate Abdel Naser Momand had gathered, was the first major assault on election campaigning since it began last Friday.
The parliamentary election will be held on October 20. Both the Taliban and the Islamic State terror outfits have urged a boycott of the vote.
"We reiterate our strong condemnation of the terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and express solidarity with the people and Government of Afghanistan in this hour of grief," Pakistan Foreign Office said.
Such cowardly acts cannot deter the people of Afghanistan from exercising their democratic right to elect their representatives, it said.
"We express our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives and pray for early recovery of the injured," the Foreign Office said.
Pakistan will continue to support the Afghan people and the government for durable peace and security in the country, it added.
