Five people were killed and five others sustained serious injuries on Monday when a speeding truck mowed down a group of labourers who were asleep on the side of the Nagpur-Mumbai NH-6, passing through Buldhana district, said police. The officials further informed that two persons died on the spot at the time of the accident and their bodies were taken to a nearby Gramin Healthcare centre.

Two others died while being taken to Malkapur hospital and one person died during treatment at a private hospital in Malkapur, added the officials. Upazila Hospital, Malkapur Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Vijay Pawar said, "At around 5 am this morning, we received a call about an accident... Two patients were brought in dead. Their postmortem is complete..."

The five injured persons are undergoing treatment at a private hospital, said police. The truck driver is absconding and a case has been registered against him at Nandura police station, further said officials. (ANI)
