The Supreme Court judge, Sanjay Kumar, has withdrawn from hearing the bail plea of Abhishek Boinpally, a Hyderabad businessman embroiled in the Delhi Liquor Policy money laundering case. This matter was initially slated to be reviewed by justices Sanjiv Khanna and Sanjay Kumar.

Justice Sanjay Kumar's recusal led Justice Sanjiv Khanna to reschedule the plea for the first week of August, with interim bail for Boinpally remaining active till then. The Supreme Court had extended five weeks of interim bail to Boinpally on March 20, which was subsequently prolonged until today.

Boinpally is challenging a Delhi High Court decision that upheld his arrest. The Enforcement Directorate accuses Boinpally and others—including Vijay Nair, Sharath Reddy, Binoy Babu, and Amit Arora—of policy irregularities and financial misconduct. Political figures like AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh and BRS leader K Kavitha are also implicated. The ED and CBI allege changes to the excise policy favored license holders improperly, with illicit gains funneled to complicit officials and hidden via fraudulent accounting. (ANI)
