New Aviation Bill Introduced to Modernize Aircraft Regulations

Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has introduced the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims to overhaul aircraft design, manufacture, and maintenance regulations, while repealing the Aircraft Act of 1934.

In a significant move to modernize India's aviation sector, Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu introduced the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The bill focuses on the design, manufacture, and maintenance of aircraft and related equipment while empowering the central government to establish requisite aviation rules.

The legislation aims to streamline the issuance of Radio Telephone Operator (Restricted) Certificates and licenses, facilitate business operations, and enforce international civil aviation conventions. Additionally, it gives the central government authority to issue emergency orders for public safety and adjudicate appeals related to compensation, licenses, and certifications.

This new bill seeks to repeal the outdated Aircraft Act of 1934, citing the need for clarity, removal of redundancies, and improved regulations to promote sustainable growth in the aviation sector. The introduction of the bill faced objections from RSP member NK Premachandran, who argued that its title should be in English.
