In a significant development, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia was released from Tihar Jail on Friday. His release came just hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail related to the Delhi excise policy case. Sisodia had been jailed for 18 months without trial.
Upon his release, Sisodia was welcomed by AAP leaders and workers gathered outside the jail. He expressed his gratitude and exclaimed, 'Bharat mata ji jai! Inquilab Zindabad!' Reflecting on the court's decision, Sisodia remarked, 'Every inch of my skin has been feeling indebted to Babasaheb. I don't understand how will pay off this debt to Babasaheb.'
The Supreme Court granted him bail with conditions, including surrendering his passport and not influencing witnesses. Punjab Minister Bram Shanker Sharma-Jimpa lauded Sisodia's bravery, stating, 'All workers across India are happy. It is a matter of great joy.' Additional Solicitor General SV Raju voiced concerns about possible witness tampering and mentioned evidence of Sisodia destroying phone records. Sisodia was jailed in February 2023 over alleged irregularities in Delhi's excise policy.
