Assam Cabinet Approves Land Lease Policy to Boost IT and Electronics Manufacturing

The Assam cabinet has green-lighted the Land and Space Lease Management Policy, 2024, aimed at positioning the state as a prime destination for IT parks and Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that the policy is set to enhance Assam's allure for investors in electronics and information technology sectors.
According to CM Sarma, the policy provides a structured framework for investors to access land and built-up space for IT parks and EMCs in Assam. It encompasses all lands and built-up areas under the jurisdiction of Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON), promising to support Tech City projects in generating 8000 direct jobs and over 1 lakh indirect employment opportunities.
In another move, the state cabinet accepted recommendations from Sub-Committees aimed at alleviating challenges faced by small traders from GST-related notices. The cabinet highlighted that cases from 2017-18 and 2018-19 will be rectified under Section 161 of the Assam GST Act, 2017. Further, issues from 2019-20 to 2021-22 will be managed as per new SOP guidelines, targeting resolution within three months without causing taxpayer harassment.
