The government announced on Tuesday the awarding of 18 out of 28 identified coal mining projects to leading private firms. This marks a significant milestone in the effort to enhance coal production.
The engagement of mining developers-cum-operators (MDOs) is expected to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and reduce mining costs. The initiative initially started with 15 coal mine projects, which has now expanded to 28 projects with a combined capacity of 257 million tonnes.
The primary objective of contracting MDOs is to significantly increase coal production by overseeing the entire mining process, from excavation and extraction to delivery. This will aid in modernizing mining practices and boosting domestic coal output.
