IAEA Rules Out Base of Cooling Tower as Cause of Zaporizhzhia Fire
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Monday's fire at the Russia-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine did not start at the base of the cooling tower or by a foreign object. Evidence shows that dismantling the damaged tower might be necessary.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has ruled out the base of the cooling tower as the origin of Monday's fire at Ukraine's Russia-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
According to IAEA head Rafael Mariano Grossi, evidence indicates that the fire was unlikely to have started from the base of the cooling tower or been caused by a foreign object.
The plant's Russian management informed the IAEA that the damaged tower might need to be dismantled.
