Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government in the aftermath of the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Poonawalla stated that the Calcutta High Court has lost faith in the state government, citing the transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Poonawalla demanded Banerjee's resignation, questioning her leadership and responsibility. He asserted that Banerjee lacks the moral, legal, or constitutional authority to continue as Chief Minister. Poonawalla also accused her of failing her constitutional obligations and described the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) as anti-Hindu.
Echoing Poonawalla's sentiments, BJP MP Sangeeta Yadav called for Banerjee to accept moral responsibility and resign. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar assured continued protests by the BJP, criticizing Banerjee's attempts to suppress the movement. The incident has led to widespread outrage among doctors nationwide, who are demanding justice and enhanced protective measures in hospitals.
