Following assertions by Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi questioned whether standing up for women's rights constitutes dirty politics. Yadav critiqued BJP's response to the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, prompting Sarangi to respond.
"Is standing up for women's rights dirty politics? Considering the brutality of what happened and the ongoing incidents in Bengal, if BJP workers are standing with women and condemning this incident, is that considered politics?" Sarangi posed these questions while emphasizing BJP's commitment to positive politics.
She stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) advocates for the rights of the poor, the exploited, the deprived, the oppressed women, and the youth. On Saturday, Yadav criticized BJP for allegedly exploiting the incident for political gain, expressing his disapproval of their calls for Mamata Banerjee's resignation.
Yadav argued that Banerjee, being a woman, understands the pain of other women and has taken appropriate action, including a decision to have the matter investigated by the CBI or another institution. He accused BJP of politicizing the tragedy and attempting to gain political advantage from it. The incident sparked nationwide protests within the medical community, with a mob vandalising the protest site on August 14.
