Governor Advocates for Diversifying Farmer Income Amid Climate Change

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has called for the introduction of alternative income sources for farmers in response to changing climatic conditions.
Addressing the 76th Foundation Day event of the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), the Governor emphasized the need to establish a potato-based industry in the state. He advocated for crop diversification, underscoring its potential to ensure food and nutrition security for India's growing population.
He noted that while Himachal Pradesh cultivates potatoes on approximately 14,000 hectares yielding two lakh tonnes, the state's potato quality remains exceptional. The Governor also congratulated the CPRI for its development of blight-resistant potato varieties and advanced aeroponic methods, which have significantly contributed to India's standing as a leading potato producer globally.
