Protests Erupt in Delhi Over Alleged Assault at Anna University
ABVP activists protested outside Tamil Nadu House in Delhi, demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister over an alleged sexual assault at Chennai's Anna University. The National Commission for Women has initiated a probe into the incident, and the Madras High Court established a Special Investigation Team.

In a sign of escalating tensions, ABVP workers staged a demonstration outside Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi on Monday, voicing their outrage over an alleged incident of sexual harassment at Chennai's Anna University. The protestors called for the Chief Minister's resignation and demanded stringent action against the university.
Among the protestors, one voice condemned the ruling DMK government, declaring, "The government should resign, as their guardianship has been compromised. A college under their supervision should not witness such transgressions." Another protestor emphasized the need for action, "Stringent steps must be taken against anyone involved in leaking sensitive information, regardless of their political affiliations, and immediate safety measures should be enhanced for students across Tamil Nadu."
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has dispatched a two-member fact-finding team to Chennai to investigate the alleged assault of a 19-year-old student. The panel, comprising NCW member Mamta Kumari and retired IPS officer Praveen Dixit, arrived on Sunday to assess the situation, pledging to propose preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
The committee's mandate includes a thorough investigation into the incident and consultations with the victim, her family, officials, and NGOs. The Commission has issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu DGP after taking suo moto cognizance of the situation.
In a related development, the Madras High Court has ordered the establishment of a Special Investigation Team to probe the case involving a second-year Anna University student, following an alleged assault reported on Monday night. The Chennai Police, which registered the case based on the victim's complaint, has arrested one suspect as part of on-going investigations.
