The committee comprises Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. They will deliberate on choosing a new CEC, a role vital for the integrity of India's elections. In preparation, the central government recently established a search committee under the guidance of Law Minister Meghwal to streamline this selection process.

Gyanesh Kumar is set to become the senior-most Election Commissioner following Rajiv Kumar's departure, with a tenure lasting until January 26, 2029.
