Kerala's ASHA Workers: The Fight for Fair Pay and Benefits

Kerala CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam on Friday urged the government to address the pressing demands of Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers, who are protesting for improved compensation and benefits. This demonstration, now in its 11th day, has brought attention to their pivotal role in society.

Viswam highlighted the invaluable contributions ASHA workers made during the COVID-19 crisis, earning the label of 'real COVID warriors' from the community. He emphasized the need for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government to initiate dialogue and act favorably on the workers' demands, drawing a contrast with the privileges extended to elite groups.

He cautioned that the protest might be co-opted by politically motivated entities and called on the government to prevent such interference. ASHA workers have warned of escalating their protest to an indefinite strike if their demands are ignored, having already staged a significant demonstration with participants from all districts.
