In a recent development surrounding the gold smuggling case linked to actress Ranya Rao, Congress MLA AS Ponnanna has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its role in the affair. Ponnanna questioned the allotment of land by the previous BJP government to the actress's company, accusing them of corruption.

Ponnanna urged Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra to name the minister who facilitated the land allowance during Basavaraj Bommai's chief ministership. He called on Vijayendra to provide proof if there were any ministers involved in aiding the actress, thereby accusing the BJP of engaging in baseless allegations.

The controversy arises as BJP leader Bharath Shetty claims the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is progressing in its probe, highlighting the necessity for accountability and transparency in the case. The arrest of Ranya Rao for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kilograms of gold from Dubai has intensified the political landscape in the state.
