In a move stirring national attention, Congress MP Saptagiri Ulaka presented a grim report concerning women's safety in Odisha to the Lok Sabha. Ulaka, filing an adjournment motion, illustrated a bleak scenario with 54 gang rape cases and 1,600 instances of atrocities against women reported in the last eight months alone.
Highlighting the peril in state-run hostels and schools, he revealed shocking incidents, including teenage pregnancies and gang rapes, underscoring a systemic breakdown of protection for minors, especially tribal communities. He emphasized these cases illustrate a rampant sexual abuse issue and governmental failure to safeguard women and children.
Ulaka called for extensive reforms including CCTV surveillance, enhanced security, and medical care in government institutions to address the gross mismanagement. He urged the Indian Prime Minister and Home Minister to take decisive action against officials failing to prevent these human rights violations.
