The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has sparked a fresh debate over the country’s official name, pushing for it to be solely referred to as Bharat. The RSS’s General Secretary, Dattatreya Hosabale, emphasized the inconsistency in using 'India' in English and 'Bharat' in other contexts and called for a change.

This statement has drawn mixed reactions across the political spectrum. AIUDF MLA Dr. Rafiqul Islam criticized it as filled with hatred, while CPI MP P. Sandosh Kumar dismissed it as a non-issue underlining that maintaining 'India' aligns with the current norms of identity. Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah supported the diversity in naming, reflecting patriotic sentiments associated with all the names.

In contrast, BJP MLA Sunil Sharma endorsed the move, citing 'Bharat' as a traditional name with cultural significance. This highlights the ongoing discourse on national identity with Congress MP K.
