The Mumbai Youth Congress President, Akhilesh Yadav, has called for the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the wake of the vandalism incident at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar. The incident followed remarks made by stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra about Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in a YouTube video.
The vandalism, reportedly carried out by Shiv Sena workers, sparked condemnation from Yadav, who pledged to restore the damaged venue. "What are the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra Home Minister doing about the scenes we are seeing in Mumbai today?" Yadav questioned, highlighting the need for accountability in preserving the culture of Maharashtra.
Comedian Kunal Kamra, responding to the controversy, refused to apologize and defended his right to free speech. He emphasized that entertainment venues should not be held accountable for his content. Kamra criticized the vandalism as a misplaced reaction to his comedic act and questioned the impartiality of law enforcement in addressing the incident.
