Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sharply criticized the Congress party during a Rajya Sabha discussion, accusing them of failing to deliver on farm loan waiver promises made to farmers. She claimed these false promises left many farmers unable to access new loans.
Sitharaman highlighted that the Congress policies were largely ineffective and riddled with corruption. She contrasted this with the current government's transparent and corruption-free support to farmers, emphasizing Prime Minister Modi's Direct Benefit Transfer scheme as evidence of their commitment.
Further, she cited media reports suggesting that Congress had previously used the farm loan waiver promise merely as a political tool to regain power in 2009, leaving many farmers still struggling without relief.
