Syed Ahmad Shakeel and Syed Shahid Yusuf, sons of Syed Salahuddin, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's leader, have petitioned the Delhi High Court to reinstate their phone call privileges in jail. Arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for their alleged involvement in a terror funding case, they dispute restrictions imposed by jail authorities.
Their legal team argues against Delhi Jail Rule 631, which limits communication for terror-related detainees, highlighting the rule's provision for exceptions subject to approval by the Deputy Inspector General. Multiple accused in similar situations have also sought the court's intervention to regain communication rights curbed by jail officials.
The bench, comprising Justices Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Tushar Rao Gedela, noted the absence of state representation and scheduled the hearing for May 22. The NIA claims the case, dating back to 2011, involves fund transfers from Pakistan to support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, implicating seven individuals.
