IT services giant Wipro announced on Thursday that it has been awarded a significant multi-year contract by the Saudi Electricity Company's subsidiary, National Grid, to create and deploy a Smart Meter Data Management (MDM) system.
Although the financial terms were not made public, Wipro will handle the design, development, implementation, and ongoing support for the MDM system throughout Saudi Arabia's national electricity grid. This initiative is set to employ advanced forecasting and reporting tools to bolster National Grid SA's strategic planning and risk management efforts, thereby optimizing power dispatch, cutting operational costs, and lessening outages—all contributing to improved experiences for end consumers.
"Harnessing our extensive energy sector expertise, smart solutions, and advanced technological capacities, we take pride in playing a pivotal role in strategic projects aligned with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, further propelling its innovation and digital transformation goals," said Vinay Firake, CEO of Wipro's APMEA region.
