The Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued directives to several authorities, requiring comprehensive documentation on purported environmental breaches linked to ongoing construction in NOIDA and Greater NOIDA.

This swift action follows an appeal from environmental advocate Rajendra Tyagi, which claims significant residential and commercial projects are advancing without mandatory environmental clearances.

The case also points to the unauthorized use of borewells and the lack of essential infrastructure like sewage systems.

During the tribunal hearing, which included Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Dr. A Senthil Vel, and Dr. Afroz Ahmad, attention was drawn to an insufficient affidavit from the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (NOIDA).

While this document claimed measures were taken against illegal constructions, it failed to provide essential details such as identifying the violators, specifying locations, and outlining enforcement steps.

The tribunal criticized out-of-date photographic evidence and requested that all parties produce updated affidavits within three weeks.

The NOIDA Authority is instructed to present a new affidavit with complete data on unlawful constructions and subsequent enforcement actions.

The Greater NOIDA Industrial Development Authority must also report on its measures, while the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar is urged to disclose the steps taken to address these violations.

The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has been tasked with a sweeping site inspection to identify ongoing violations and implement corrective actions.

Geo-tagged photos with date stamps were presented, capturing active construction sites lacking essential permissions such as Environmental Clearance (EC) and Consent to Establish (CTE).

The tribunal expects detailed updates by October 8, 2025, during the next scheduled hearing. (ANI)
