The Assam government is gearing up for another eviction operation in the Rengma Reserve Forest, Uriumghat, situated in Golaghat district. Slated for Monday, the drive will cover approximately 2,500 bighas (827 acres) of forest land. This is part of a broader strategy by the district administration to reclaim land from encroachments.
In a significant move last month, authorities liberated over 10,000 bighas of forest land in Uriamghat, unraveling unauthorized constructions. On Sunday, Biswanath district also saw a successful eviction drive. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed the government's commitment to preserving forests for future generations in a post on social media platform X.
Earlier phases of the eviction campaign saw notable success, with over 8,900 bighas cleared and more than 4,000 illegal structures removed. Special Chief Secretary Yadav and Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan acknowledged the coordinated efforts of the administration, police, and other agencies in ensuring the smooth progression of activities.
