Assam Rifles Strike Major Blow Against Cross-Border Narcotics Trafficking
In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles confiscated massive quantities of methamphetamine and heroin in Mizoram districts, disrupting cross-border drug trafficking. In a decisive move to thwart cross-border drug smuggling, the Assam Rifles conducted a search operation on September 17, 2025, guided by precise intelligence inputs. The operation took place near Zote village in Mizoram's Champhai District. During this mission, troops intercepted an individual suspected of carrying narcotics. Confronted by the forces, the suspect abandoned the contraband and disappeared into the jungle, leveraging the difficult terrain.
A comprehensive search of the surrounding area resulted in the recovery of 34.218 kg of methamphetamine tablets, valued at approximately ₹102.654 crores. The confiscated drugs were transferred to the Excise & Narcotics Department in Champhai for further legal action. This operation highlights the Assam Rifles' unwavering dedication to dismantling narco-networks along the Indo-Myanmar border, a vital effort for the protection of the nation's youth.
In an earlier operation on September 16, Assam Rifles seized 2.462 kilograms of Heroin No-4, valued at ₹20.10 crores, at Zokhawthar in Mizoram. The seized drugs, along with the vehicle involved, were handed over to the Zokhawthar Police Department to facilitate further investigations. Similarly, on September 13, they intercepted methamphetamine tablets worth over ₹7.11 crores in an anti-narcotics operation in Zokhawthar.
Pursuant to intelligence about narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles launched an operation on September 12, 2025, in the area between World Bank Road and Vawkte Kai at Zokhawthar. During this exercise, a suspect was observed transporting a bag near the river. On sensing imminent arrest, the individual fled, leaving behind the bag containing 2.372 kg of methamphetamine tablets, estimated at ₹7.11 crores. In coordination with Zokhawthar Police, the contraband was confiscated and submitted to authorities for further inquiry. These operations underscore the Assam Rifles' commitment to countering the drug trade and securing the youth from its adverse effects.
