In a heated discourse concerning social media interpretations, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai defended his recent remarks about a plea regarding a beheaded statue of Lord Vishnu. Speaking on Thursday, CJI Gavai reaffirmed respect for all faiths while calling out the distortions prevalent on digital platforms.

The session, which included Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta and Senior Lawyer Kapil Sibal, revolved around the oversimplification of judicial comments online. Mehta, having known the CJI for a decade, vouched for Gavai's inclusive outlook on religions. Sibal echoed concerns about social media's tendency to misrepresent legal proceedings.

Justice K Vinod Chandran voiced concerns over misinformation spread on social media, branding it 'anti-social media.' The discussion also touched on CJI Gavai's disputed statement about a historic temple dispute, where he humorously suggested that the petitioner seek divine intervention. Ultimately, the court deferred to the Archaeological Survey of India's expertise in such matters.
