Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday paid homage at the Police Parade Ground in Naigaon, Mumbai, to honor police personnel who sacrificed their lives in duty on Police Commemoration Day. This annual event remembers the bravery of those who dedicated their lives to the nation's safety.
October 21 is solemnly observed nationwide as 'Commemoration Day,' marking the ambush and killing of 10 policemen by the Chinese Army in Ladakh on October 21, 1959. In 1962, the DGsP/IGsP Conference established this day to honor these fallen heroes, emphasizing their significant sacrifice.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar attended a similar event in Pune, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the courage and dedication of police personnel. In Delhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh underscored the importance of unity between the Army and police in maintaining national security.
