Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday paid tribute to eight police martyrs, underscoring their vital role in maintaining law and order, during the Police Commemoration Day program at City Armed Reserve Grounds on Bengaluru-Mysuru Road. He highlighted the importance of remembering their sacrifices as a cornerstone of state development.
Siddaramaiah remarked, 'Eight police personnel from Karnataka became martyrs, and their families are present here. Many gave their lives in the line of duty, and across the nation, 191 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice.' He stressed the police's duty to preserve order and citizens' rights, essential for attracting investment and fostering state development.
Police Commemoration Day, observed on October 21, commemorates the 1959 incident where ten policemen died in an ambush by Chinese troops. The National Police Memorial in New Delhi stands as a tribute to their sacrifice, featuring a 30-foot-high monolith, a Wall of Valour, and a museum. Throughout the country, events honor fallen officers' enduring legacy.
