In a strategic move to enhance its air defense capabilities, India is negotiating a significant missile purchase from Russia, aimed at fortifying its S-400 systems, having already demonstrated effectiveness in Operation Sindoor by downing multiple Pakistani aircraft.

Defense Ministry officials suggest the acquisition proposal will be discussed on October 23, during a defense acquisition council meeting. A 2018 agreement already secured five S-400 squadrons, with additional squadron requests ongoing as India adjusts to regional security dynamics.

Amidst the conflict in Ukraine, Russia continues to meet its defense commitments, with India actively pursuing further S-400, S-500 systems, and potential air-to-air missile purchases to enhance its combat range. The Indo-Russian military synergy remains robust, extending to the BrahMos missile development, as both nations prepare for discussions in December during President Putin's visit.
