Tuas Power is setting its sights on a greener future, aiming to transition its 133 MW coal-fired power plant to operate fully on biomass by 2028. The company, responsible for a significant portion of Singapore's electricity, revealed its ambitious plans in a statement released on Thursday.

The current operation at the Tembusu Multi-utilities complex utilizes a 70:30 coal-to-biomass ratio, but efforts are underway to enhance the use of renewable resources like imported wood pellets and palm kernel shells, complemented by locally sourced wood chips.

Tuas Power continues to engage in active discussions with consumers to expand offtake agreements, ensuring that this green transformation remains commercially viable. Concurrently, the company is exploring the potential of clean energy imports and renewable projects to significantly reduce the emissions intensity of its operations.
