Rus-India Fertilizer Partnership: A New Urea Era Begins
Uralchem, a leading Russian potash and ammonium nitrate producer, teamed up with three Indian firms to establish a joint venture for building a urea plant in Russia. The facility, with a projected capacity of up to 2 million tonnes per year, will be supplied with ammonia from Russia's Togliattiazot plant and financed by Indian companies until operational.
Uralchem, Russia's foremost potash and ammonium nitrate producer, alongside Indian companies Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, National Fertilizers, and Indian Potash, have inked a memorandum of understanding. This agreement marks the initiation of a joint project to construct a urea plant in Russia, as confirmed by both the Indian government and Uralchem.
According to Uralchem's statement, the envisioned plant will boast an annual production capacity ranging between 1.8 and 2 million tonnes, showcasing the scale and ambition of this international collaboration.
The joint venture will notably rely on ammonia from Russia's Togliattiazot plant, ensuring the raw material supply chain. Financial backing will come from the Indian companies until the plant becomes operationally viable, demonstrating the significant investment India is making in this venture.
