A Maharashtra farmer claimed he was coerced into selling his kidney to repay a debt, sparking a police investigation. Medical exams revealed Roshan Kude indeed has one kidney. Chandrapur Police arrested six moneylenders linked to his claim of debt-induced organ sale.
Kude, owning four acres in Chandrapur's Minthur village, faced farming losses. To supplement his income, he turned to dairy farming but borrowed Rs 50,000 from moneylenders in 2021. The debt spiraled to Rs 74 lakh, compelling him to consider drastic measures.
Under alleged pressure, Kude contacted an agent online and traveled to Cambodia via Kolkata for the organ sale. Consequently, five of the six arrested have been remanded till December 20, while police probe Kude's financial transactions further.
