In a tragic turn of events, four farmers lost their lives while three others sustained injuries due to the collapse of makeshift shelters in Telangana's Mancherial district. The incidents, attributed to inclement weather, have sparked political uproar as state officials face accusations of procurement delays.
The mishaps occurred on Tuesday night in Luxettipet mandal, where unseasonal rains and strong winds led to the failure of two structures in Kothuru and Gampalapalli villages. Opposition parties, including the BJP and BRS, criticized the Congress-led state government, alleging that bureaucratic inefficiencies left farmers vulnerable while awaiting their produce's procurement.
BRS Working President K T Rama Rao called for immediate compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the victims' families, labeling the deaths as governmental negligence. BJP state president N Ramchander Rao echoed these sentiments, questioning the delay in procurement processes despite central funding. Demands for swift governmental action and improved safeguards are mounting in the wake of this crisis.
