In a pressing appeal to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has highlighted an urgent healthcare crisis. In a letter sent on Thursday, Stalin called for immediate action to stop 152 vacant super-specialty medical seats from being surrendered to the All-India Quota (AIQ).

Stalin reminded the Chief Minister about the potential dangers this move poses to the state's public healthcare system. Based on the 2025 NEET examination, counselling for 430 super-specialty medical seats was conducted, yet only 63 were filled, leaving 152 seats vacant after the second round. The Supreme Court's order on May 29 came after government representatives failed to advocate effectively during a case initiated by a candidate.

Udhayanidhi emphasized the potential negative impacts on Tamil Nadu's government doctors and the quality of advanced treatments available in government hospitals. He referenced the legacy of the late Chief Minister Kalaignar, under whom reservation for in-service government doctors was solidified, emphasizing the importance of maintaining this hard-earned right. The situation now underscores the urgency for corrective action from the state.
