The recent fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, which resulted in 21 fatalities and left 28 others injured, has raised serious concerns about illegal operations in the area. A local eyewitness, who participated in rescue operations, reported that numerous unlicensed hotels are functioning illegally, posing a looming threat to public safety.
According to the witness, the fire began at a building in a congested area, complicating emergency response efforts. The Chief Fire Officer noted that poor building design further hindered escape and rescue efforts, as it lacked necessary fire safety measures like additional staircases, contributing significantly to the tragedy.
In response, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor has taken the situation seriously, initiating a high-level investigation. Meanwhile, legal proceedings have commenced against Lovkesh Bajaj, the hotel owner, who is currently in police custody. Authorities have invoked multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against him, reflecting the gravity of the incident.
