The Delhi High Court has issued a directive to remove videos and online content posted by Dr. Kapil Kakar that allegedly make serious accusations against a sitting judge concerning the recent building collapse near Saket Metro Station. This directive comes amid a criminal contempt petition filed by the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA).
N Hariharan, President of the DHCBA, argued that the videos contained allegations of corruption against a judge, which amounted to an attack on the judiciary. The Court voiced concerns over social media's influence and its potential to erode public trust in the judicial system, suggesting such platforms should not be used to scandalise the judiciary.
The petition argues that the statements in the videos extend beyond judicial criticism and qualify as criminal contempt, undermining the court's authority. It calls for action against Dr. Kakar and requests social media giants to remove related content and preserve records. The case is set for a July hearing following the Government's consent for a criminal contempt petition.
