In a significant move to refresh the electoral rolls, Uttarakhand Chief Electoral Officer BVRC Purushottam has spearheaded the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme. On Monday, the campaign unfolded with Purushottam presenting the enumeration form to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This initiative, driven by the Election Commission of India, aims to purify and update the electoral lists.

The campaign will see the distribution of enumeration forms to all registered voters across Uttarakhand. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are tasked with digitizing these forms through a mobile application by July 7. To support their efforts, the BLOs will receive financial assistance for mobile recharges, ensuring seamless digital activity without data constraints, officials disclosed.

Meanwhile, India gears up for its 16th Census, the first embracing digital self-enumeration. Scheduled in two phases, the Census will commence with Houselisting and Housing Census in 2026, followed by Population Enumeration in 2027, encompassing demographic, socio-economic, and migration data collection. Precise dates and queries for Phase II will be announced later.
