The air quality in India’s national capital, Delhi, experienced a slight downturn on Tuesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) climbing to 159 compared to 151 the previous day, data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) indicates. This maintains Delhi's air quality within the 'moderate' range, though certain areas like Alipur, Dwarka Sector 8, Jahangirpuri, and Wazirpur have slipped into the 'poor' category, reaching AQI readings as high as 230. Notably, Anand Vihar has hit a 'severe' quality level with an AQI of 404, signaling significant health risks.

In stark contrast, cities across India boast superior air quality, with Chennai posting an AQI of 97, Ahmedabad at 86, Bengaluru at a relatively clean 50, Hyderabad at 68, and Mumbai at 63. However, Lucknow and Jaipur showed declining air quality levels, recording AQI scores of 102 and 128, respectively. The CPCB categorizes air quality into tiers, with AQI levels 0-50 deemed 'Good' and 51-100 'Satisfactory'. The 'Moderate' category (101-200) can impact those with pre-existing health conditions, while AQI scores of 201-300 denote 'Poor' air quality, causing discomfort to many others, and levels 301-400 result in 'Very Poor' conditions.

As parts of India contend with air quality concerns, the country is also bracing for significant weather events. The India Meteorological Department forecasts isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall across Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Northeast India over the next week. Heavy rains are anticipated specifically in Karnataka and Kerala on June 8 and 9. Rainfall patterns extend across parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Yanam, and into Northern Karnataka areas in the days to come, along with expected precipitation in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab from June 11 through 14, as well as several regions of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
