A Special PMLA court in Ranchi rejected the petition of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who sought to be discharged from a money-laundering case revolving around a controversial land deal. The case involves the acquisition of 8.86 acres in Ranchi, alleged to be fraudulent.
The court stated that the prosecution's materials are substantial enough to determine the existence of a prima facie case. AJC Yogesh Kumar noted that the current legal framework supports the prosecution when circumstances create a cumulative suspicion.
The court's examination revealed that the evidence suggests more than mere suspicion, raising a prima facie case against Soren. While the defense argued about witness credibility, the court emphasized that such issues require trial-level scrutiny. The Enforcement Directorate is poised to establish formal charges.
