In a decisive rebuttal, Congress General Secretary for Organisation KC Venugopal dismissed claims of a potential merger between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), labeling such speculation as unfounded. At a press conference on Thursday, Venugopal reassured party affiliates and the public that recent meetings involving West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and top Congress figures were purely routine in order to consolidate the opposition for the India Alliance.

Venugopal turned a spotlight on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, alleging irregularities in the electoral process, specifically the rejection of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natrajan’s nomination in Madhya Pradesh. He branded the rejection as a blatant 'seat chori,' underscoring the party's exasperation with the Election Commission of India for delays in addressing the lodged complaint despite senior members' interventions.

The Congress leader did not hold back when addressing broader national issues, castigating the central government over worsening economic conditions. He cited unchecked unemployment rates, a deteriorating MSME sector, and rising prices of essentials like petrol, diesel, and LPG as indicative of failure in governance, leaving citizens in distress and students worried about their future prospects.
