National Outcry: Doctors Strike Over Kolkata Tragedy

Doctors across Goa, including those from private hospitals, are striking in solidarity with a nationwide protest organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) over the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. Emergency services remain unaffected. A silent march is planned from Azad Maidan to the old Goa Medical College building.

Doctors across Goa have taken part in a 24-hour strike starting Saturday morning, joining a nationwide protest against the horrific rape and murder of a Kolkata-based colleague. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has spearheaded the strike, calling on its members nationwide to participate.

According to Dr. Sandesh Chodankar, president of IMA Goa, while the strike has seen massive participation, emergency services in private hospitals are continuing undisrupted. A silent protest march is scheduled to take place from Azad Maidan to the old Goa Medical College building, currently the office of the Entertainment Society of Goa.

Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) resident doctors started their protest on Friday. The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) demands justice, with their future actions dependent on the stance of their parent body in Delhi.
